GIS and Environmental Specialist
Andrew Roberts works with both environmental and geomatics based project. He has a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Geography, a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, and a Geographic Information Sciences Diploma from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
The majority of Andrew’s experience is focused on GIS/remote sensing using advanced equipment including: UAVs (fixed wing and rotary), oceanographic systems (singlebeam, multibeam, and sub-bottom sonars), LiDAR, hyperspectral sensors, 360 VR camera, camera stabilization gear, and topographic land surveying equipment.
Andrew’s first major project at SEM was the completion of a research and development (R & D) project which tested commercial UAV operations beyond visible line of sight for the purpose of mapping/monitoring right-of-way vegetation clearing. Most recently, he has finished a one year secondment position with NL Hydro during the construction of the TL-267 transmission line where he focused on real-time GIS mapping for project support and tracking. Other recent highlights include UAV mapping of Voisey's Bay Nickel Mine, UAV mapping of Soldiers Pond Converter Station, bathymetry mapping of the Exploits River, and various environmental work associated with a large fish offset project.
