On behalf of our client, SEM is seeking an Engineer, Protection and Controls to support the installation of a new generating asset as part of a multidisciplinary project execution team.
• Providing Protection and Controls support to project teams to ensure successful project execution
• Working closely with consultants to review all technical packages to ensure compliance with standards and practices
• Reviewing plant automation and monitoring systems
• Reviewing protection and control studies and settings and providing feedback
• Reviewing and assessing equipment configurations and settings
• Reviewing and advising on new technologies and recommending optimal solutions
• Providing input on the selection and procurement of Protection and Controls equipment
• Providing on-site client support during installation and commissioning
• Interfacing with other discipline engineers and operations staff to address issues as required
• Participating in design reviews, constructability workshops, and project management meetings
• Providing input to, and/or preparing project estimates and schedules
• Supporting contract management activities
• Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Electrical preferred; Process or Mechatronics Engineering will also be considered); an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as a Professional Member
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience, including several years in protection/controls/automation
• Working knowledge of program controllers (PLC or DCS systems), HMIs, and other protective devices
• Experience working on major projects considered an asset
• Experience with combustion turbines considered an asset
• Experience working in a collaborative EPCM contract environment
• Experience in design, implementation, and troubleshooting of protection and control equipment and systems
• Experience preparing specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Experience with controller and HMI programming languages and communication protocol integration considered assets
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required

Anticipated start date: May 2026
Contract Term: 1- year contract with possibility of extension
