Civil/Environmental Engineer-in-Training

We are currently seeking a Civil/Environmental Engineer-in-Training to be based out of our St. John’s, NL office. The candidate will work with other team members on small to large scale civil and environmental related projects such as natural river engineering, water retaining structures, fish barrier designs, environmental assessment and permitting, feasibility studies, fish habitat compensation detailed designs, and construction management.

This role will require traveling for extended periods to support fieldwork responsibilities and contribute to project success across a variety of client needs.
 
Key Responsibilities

•    Provide project coordination/management and engineering support for engineering projects and designs;
•    Preparing technical memos, design reports, and presenting findings to clients;
•    Prepare technical reports, tender packages, specifications, and work plans;
•    Manage a variety of projects, including: budgeting, scheduling, managing field teams, and preparing technical cost estimates and proposals;
•    Preparing and tracking progress of regulatory permit applications; 
•    Prepare design drawings;
•    Support field data collection exercises;
•    Conduct field work, such as hydrologic baseline field programs;
•    Travel within Newfoundland and Labrador, including remote locations;
•    Collaborate with biologists, surveyors, engineers, and scientists.
•    Other responsibilities as required.

 

Education and Experience

•    0 to 5 years experience with engineering/design deliverables;
•    Registered or able to register as an Engineer-in-Training with Professional Engineers and Geoscientist Newfoundland & Labrador (PEGNL);
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, etc.);
•    Related co-op/internship experience preferred;
•    Experience in consulting industry is considered an asset;
•    Familiarity with environmental/mining legislation is considered an asset; 
•    Experience working in mines is an asset but not required;
•    Willingness to work overtime as required, including weekends;
•    Willingness to travel for extended periods to fulfill fieldwork responsibilities;
•    Valid driver’s license (Class 5 or equivalent)
