SEM is currently seeking a full-time Junior Environmental Chemist/Scientist.
The Junior Environmental Chemist/Scientist will assist the SEM team in completing project-based work for a variety of clients. This position can be based in St. John’s or Labrador West. If based in St. John’s, the role will require extensive travel to Labrador West.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Interpretation of laboratory results and coordination with contract laboratories
• Environmental data entry, organization and analysis
• Desktop review and interpretation of scientific literature and regulatory framework
• Participation in planning and execution of baseline studies, with opportunity to participate in associated field work
• Regular travel to our Labrador West location to support field studies
• Support data compilation and calculation exercises for climate change projects
• Technical report writing in a wide range of environmental specialities including, but not limited to, atmospheric science, noise, contaminated sites monitoring, water quality, environmental protection; interest to learn and perform tasks outside of area of skills and studies considered an asset.
• Collaborate with a team of subject matter experts to deliver high-quality environmental services to meet deadlines
REQUIREMENTS
• Post-secondary education in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field of study; completion of a thesis-based program considered an asset
• 1-3 years of relevant experience; consulting experience considered an asset
• Writing experience is a must; a writing sample will be required for interview candidates
• Willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Keen learner with organizational skills and attention to detail
• Positive attitude with strong communication and problem-solving skills
