Our client is currently looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to manage major utility projects. 
 

Job Description

This position is expected to exercise a high level of personal initiative and judgment in the strategic planning, organizing, and directing of specific major electric utility projects, with a primary responsibility for large transmission line and terminal station mega projects.

The Senior Project Manager will be self-directing in achieving objectives and provides high-level technical and commercial instruction and advice to senior management on specific technical issues. They provide direction, supervision, business guidance, technical advice, deliverable requirements, mentoring, and performance feedback to multiple employees, including other project managers, professional engineers, and other corporate staff as required. 

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall delivery of assigned projects, which can include large-scale transmission line and terminal station developments in Labrador. This position is accountable for the assigned project’s scope, budget stewardship, and schedule management. Responsibilities may span from planning through the detailed engineering phase to completions, including contract or construction management oversight. This role relies on a large operational and corporate interface management to complete the required scope.

The role will have a level of authority required for day-to-day decision-making. In fulfilling this mandate, the Senior Project Manager is expected to liaise extensively with the department, other program/project managers, execution teams, and functional Company managers to ensure their full awareness of the project’s requirements.

Requirements
  • Extensive background (+20 years) on large engineering and construction projects with a focus on electric utility infrastructure.
  • Direct experience in project management of major projects.
  • Experience in leading large scale transmission line, terminal station, or utility projects would be considered an asset.
  • Extensive background on managing and overseeing major projects. 
  • A focus on continual improvement is a priority of the role. The incumbent should have a solid grasp of advanced project management principles, along with having experience in successfully applying and advancing those principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in developing and leading diverse work teams.
  • Commercially astute individual with a strong background in cost/schedule analysis. Claims management experience is considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with large national and international construction Contractors is considered an asset.
  • Experience with multiple forms of contracting including EPC and compensation terms including unit rate, lump sum and reimbursable.
  • Strong background in the application of Project Management Systems.
  • Experience with working with a project controls team.
  • Adaptability to perform in different work environments.
  • Ability to train/mentor personnel.
  • Strong cost/schedule analytical skills.
  • Team focused approach and collaborative nature.
