Project Manager

SEM ltd is looking for a Project Manager. SEM ltd is a vendor of personnel for several clients throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The purpose of this job advertisement is to source highly skilled local professionals for job placement opportunities that align with their experience.

We require the services of an individual to join our clients’ engineering and project management team. The individual will support the execution of projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The Project Manager will oversee the successful planning, execution, and closeout of terminal station projects, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, budgets, and timelines. The role requires leadership in project management best practices, contractor oversight, and stakeholder coordination, with a focus on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) excellence.

Responsibilities

Job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Lead terminal station projects from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets, including regular reporting to leadership
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure electrical designs, specifications, and deliverables meet corporate standards and applicable codes
  • Oversee and review tender packages, participate in contract evaluation and award processes, ensuring quality and value for our client
  • Manage project teams, including internal engineers, contractors, and consultants, to achieve project objectives
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction activities, verify project progress, and provide support to site teams
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate project risks, and maintain the project risk register throughout the project lifecycle
  • Facilitate effective communication across stakeholders, ensuring that approved project changes are reflected in the active budget and schedule
  • Review and approve technical documentation, including commissioning procedures and electrical designs for terminal stations
  • Ensure contractor compliance with the client's Contractor Safety Management Plan and corporate HSE policies
  • Support the development of technical specifications for major terminal station equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear)
  • Lead project closeout activities, ensuring smooth transition of completed assets to operations
  • Promote continual improvement through lessons learned, innovative approaches, and sharing best practices with other project teams
  • Submit timesheets and documentation in accordance with project management requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or a relevant engineering discipline) registered with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) association
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive project management and/or engineering experience in high-voltage electrical projects, including terminal stations and transmission systems
  • Proven experience managing complex projects involving high-voltage equipment such as power transformers, current transformers, voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches
  • Strong background in coordinating and managing multidisciplinary project teams (e.g., electrical, civil, mechanical) and collaborating with design and construction groups
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects on operational industrial sites, including contractor supervision and adherence to site-specific safety requirements
  • Proficiency in project management tools (such as Microsoft Project or Primavera) as well as excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic work environments and changing project demands
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license with Government Drivers Abstract
  • Valid certifications in WHMIS 2015, Defensive Driving, Powerline Hazards, Emergency First Aid, Fall Protection, and Trenching and Excavating are considered assets
  • Must be able to provide a criminal records check

Anticipated Start Date: June 2025

Anticipated End Date: December 2026 (18 month contract with an option in favour of the Client to extend the service request for up to one-year increments on each end date)

Estimated Effort Time: 37.5 hours per week (office) or as required onsite.
