IOC Cowboy Creek Offset Monitoring

Completed for:
Rio Tinto IOC
Location:
Cowboy Creek, Labrador

SEM Environmental was tasked with helping bring Cowboy Creek back to life after a forest fire in Labrador City. Spawning gravel, overhangs, and boulder clusters were used to create ideal spawning areas for fish.

In addition to the construction of all creek improvements, SEM monitors the offset project annually by performing an aerial survey and creek fish surveys. Electrofishing is the method of fish extraction as it stuns the fish rather than killing them - this limits fish mortality for these surveys.
